David Kircher

David Kircher is SBCA’s Quality Assurance Inspector/Auditor for SBCRI (SBCA’s Structural Building Components Research Institute). David comes from a general contracting background, having grown up within his family’s commercial general contracting corporation. After college, David worked for the family business for eight years. His roles included Estimator, Field Engineer, Field Superintendent, Asbestos Abatement Contractor, Corporate License Qualifying Party, and Government Project CQC Inspector. When the first Gulf War Recession caused the family business to close, David transitioned into working for various general contractors within those roles he previously held.

Shortly thereafter, the opportunity presented itself to become an Independent Consultant/Inspector. Thus, resulting in David obtaining ICC Special Inspector Certifications in several structural trades, including structural masonry, structural steel, structural welding, high strength bolting, seismic framing, and epoxy anchoring. He performed QC and QA inspections for a large variety of projects, ranging from single- and multi-story buildings and facilities, including hospital and medical facilities, grade schools, government facilities and courthouses, water towers and storage tanks, retail shopping malls, aircraft control towers, aviation instruction and test facilities, ordnance and ammunition storage bunkers, hotels, and multi- and single-family residences.

During this time, David was introduced to the component industry, having been found through the Yellow Pages by the Truss Plate Institute (TPI). At the time, TPI had the MPC Wood Truss Quality Assurance Program, prior to SBCA/SBCRI. They needed a QA Inspector for the southwest U.S., and soon David’s QA region expanded to plants across the mountain, midwestern, and central states, as well as regions east of the Mississippi River. In 2018, the TPI QA Program was transitioned to SBCA, functioning through SBCRI. David was very excited to join the SBCA team at that time. “It is important to me to convey Quality Assurance and Quality Control in a manner that enables people to understand how important achieving structural requirements and meeting quality criteria tolerances is to their success and safety,” says David. “I am excited to be part of the structural building industry in Quality Assurance, because QA makes components better, and components make buildings better.”

“David’s passion and commitment to quality in the industry is unapparelled,” says John Arne, SBCA’s General Manager of Inspection Services. “He has a vast knowledge and history of construction and truss production. He is invaluable to our team.”

This year, 2024, a special congratulations to David is due as he celebrates 30 years of Quality Assurance in the component industry!

David obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in General Building Construction from Arizona State University. David has been married for 40 years, and he and his wife have successfully raised two children. David enjoys spending time with their golden retrievers, listening to music, playing classic rock guitar, and attending concerts. You can often find him watching sports and IndyCar, IMSA, and F1 racing, or playing tennis and golf. David can be reached at dkircher@sbcacomponents.com.
