A pair of public comment periods that impact component manufacturers (CMs) are now open.  Truss Plate Institute (TPI) has opened a public review and comment period for the draft TPI 1-2022 National Design Standard for Metal Plate Connected Wood Truss Construction.  This is the ANSI standard that governs wood roof and floor truss construction including design responsibilities, quality control, and design considerations among several other important areas of interest to CMs.

TPI has published a list of changes to the ANSI/TPI-1 2014 standard here.  To participate in the public comment process, please visit https://www.tpinst.org/2022-public-review.  TPI has established a deadline of June 20, 2022 to submit public comments.

Additionally, the International Code Council (ICC) has opened its public comment period for 2022 Group B Code Proposals.  This includes proposed changes to the International Residential Code (IRC) that will impact wood frame construction in single family residences.  CMs should review any pertinent code change proposals that may impact their product lines including floor or roof trusses or wall panels.

To review code change proposals, or to participate in the public comment process, visit https://www.cdpaccess.com/login/ and sign in or Register for a CDP Access (Code Development Process Access) account.  Once you have an account you can review a number of code change proposals and submit public comments at https://www.cdpaccess.com/public-comments/.  ICC is accepting public comments on Group B proposals until June 20, 2022.

SBCA encourages all of its members to participate in standards and code development processes.  Changes proposed and accepted this year will have significant implications for the industry long into the future.
