That’s a wrap for the 2024 March Madness Bracket Challenge for both Men’s and Women’s Basketball.

Congratulations to Abby Langenberg, SBCA’s Director of Business Development, for winning the SBCA March Madness WOMEN’s Basketball Bracket Challenge.

Narrowly edging out SBCA’s Director of Education, Ashley Baker, Abby takes the ‘W’ with guessing 168 points for the tiebreaker (actual total was 162), followed by Jack Dermer of American Truss, LLC, coming in third place, with 153 points. Six out of the 23 bracket participants correctly picked the South Carolina Gamecocks as the champions. South Carolina beat Iowa 87-75, winning its third NCAA Women’s Championship.

As one of SBCA’s newest staff members, Abby is making a splash. “I was so excited to win our bracket,” says Abby. “I called my dad immediately and told him that all those days and weekends watching basketball together finally paid off!”

Our next congratulations is awarded to Laramy Schmid of Western Truss & Components, for winning the SBCA March Madness MEN’s Basketball Bracket Challenge.

With 11 out of the 46 bracket participants correctly choosing the UConn Huskies as the title winner, the competition was high. Laramy took the top spot with 152 points (9 points ahead of second place). UConn defeated Purdue 75-60, making them the first back-to-back champion since 2007, and giving them their sixth NCAA Championship title.

Laramy is a big fan of college basketball, but when it comes to the March Madness bracket, he never expected to win. “With all the upsets this year, I was surprised to see that I was fairing pretty well,” says Laramy. “I am not a UConn fan per se, but I watched them play a couple games this year and they seemed like the most complete team. That’s who I feel fairs the best when it comes down to winning the tournament.”

Thank you to all who participated in SBCA’s third annual March Madness Bracket Challenge. Join us again next year and try to win those bragging rights!
