John Arne

John Arne is SBCA’s General Manager of Inspection Services; he has held this position for six years, helping grow the program focused on improving quality within the component manufacturing industry. Since starting virtual quality assurance audits in 2020, John spends the majority of his time reviewing in-plant quality control programs and checking out the quality and storage of trusses and raw materials.

In this capacity, John runs the industries third-party Quality Assurance program through SBCA’s Structural Building Components Research Institute (SBCRI). SBCRI is an ISO/IEC 17020 accredited organization that performs quality assurance inspections primarily for component manufacturers (CMs). It is accredited to inspect wood trusses, steel trusses, wood wall panels, and steel wall panels. SBCRI hit its growth goals in 2023 and is well on track to hit the 2024 growth goals, as well. The program added 19 new plants during 2023, with a total of 310 inspection locations.

John enjoys working with new plants to make sure they are on the path to success with their in-plant quality control programs. Having good quality control not only helps a plant produce high quality trusses and wall panels, which helps entice new customers and retain existing customers, but it also helps the entire industry by displaying and promoting excellence for both commercial and residential customers.

As someone who has worked with John for many years, SBCA’s Quality Assurance Inspector/Auditor, David Kircher, has experienced John’s vast knowledge, courteous personality, and deep understanding. “John is one of the best GMs I have ever worked with,” says David. “I appreciate how he thinks outside of the box and comes up with creative solutions. I have truly enjoyed working with John over the years and I am excited to continue working with him.”

Although John has a more behind-the-scenes role, he has made lasting impacts and relationships across the industry through the QC and QA programs over many years. “John is responsive and client-focused,” says Greg Greenlee, SBCA’s Technical Director. “He brings an even-keeled personality and a strong passion for quality to his work, which is evident in the relationships he has established with component manufacturer clients.”

John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northern Illinois University, and a Juris Doctorate in Law and LL.M. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. John and his wife reside in Illinois, where they enjoy going out to dinner with friends and taking care of their two adopted rescue dogs, Henry and Zoey. You can often find John watching movies, listening to music, or teaching the Les Mills Body Combat and Body Pump exercise class in his free time. John can be reached at jarne@sbcacomponents.com
