Webb Analytics' Deals Report normally focuses on the continental United States, but this month we need to widen our perspective. That's because one of the few acquisitions that happened in the past four weeks involved two Juneau, AK, institutions: Don Abel Building Supply and Valley Lumber. They were acquired by Mitchell Northern Acquisitions, a new unit of the company that also owns Mitchell Lumber in Belfair, WA.
Elsewhere, the biggest purchase of late was centered in Iowa, where Spectrum Paint bought eight locations from Diamond Vogel. Based in Orange City, IA, Diamond Vogel plans to focus on manufacturing paint.
Through Sept. 17, Webb Analytics' database shows 1,721 LBM locations have been purchased by 45 companies in 69 different transactions. That's the most locations that have changed hands in any year since 2018. There also have been 164 greenfield store openings that have either taken place or are scheduled to occur this year, as well as 57 closures.
Among other recent developments:
-
The Johnson Paint division of Ring's End Lumber bought Home Decor Group of Stratham, NH. It then closed the Johnson Paint branch in Hampton, NH, to move into the Stratham location.
-
Decks & Docks set up in the Philadelphia area by acquiring Service Wholesale of Downingtown, PA.
-
ABC Supply bought Exterior Home Products of Columbus, MS, and opened a new store in Owensboro, KY.
