White Rock Truss Invests $1.5M to Expand Virginia Operations, Add 27 Jobs

Governor Glenn Youngkin has announced that White Rock Truss & Components, LLC will expand its operations in Lee County, Virginia. The construction product manufacturer plans to invest $1.5 million in a new lumber shed and equipment upgrades, which is expected to create 27 jobs.

Governor Youngkin stated, “White Rock Truss & Components’ expansion is a great example of the entrepreneurial spirit that defines Southwest Virginia.” He emphasized that this investment supports Virginia's manufacturing base and reflects the state's commitment to rural economic growth.

Secretary of Commerce and Trade Juan Pablo Segura noted, “White Rock Truss & Components’ decision to expand in Lee County underscores the strength of Virginia’s rural economy and the value of long-term business partnerships.”

Founded in 2005 in Lee County, White Rock Truss & Components produces trusses and engineered lumber for home construction companies and retailers. The company aims to double production by constructing a new building and upgrading saw equipment due to increasing demand.

Tonya Freeman, Finance Manager at White Rock Truss & Components, expressed gratitude for government support through grants and loans from the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority (VCEDA), saying it empowers them to make an impact in their community.

Matthew Lohr, Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry, highlighted the significance of forestry as Virginia’s third-largest economic driver. He welcomed the expansion as it strengthens the state's forestry sector.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership collaborated with several organizations including the Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission and the Economic Development Authority of Lee County to facilitate this project. Leslie Litton from Lee County’s Community Development recognized these efforts as vital for securing this investment.

Jonathan Belcher, Executive Director of VCEDA, congratulated White Rock Truss & Components on their expansion project. VCEDA approved a $500,000 loan to assist with equipment purchases for this project.

The project received financial backing including a $100,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund approved by Governor Youngkin. It also secured additional funding through a $500,000 loan from VCEDA and a $50,000 grant from the Tobacco Region Opportunity Fund.

Senator Todd Pillion expressed enthusiasm about the local economic benefits brought by this expansion. Delegate Terry Kilgore praised collaborative efforts among state partners that ensured this development occurred within Virginia.

The Virginia Jobs Investment Program (VJIP) will support job creation by providing services and funding aimed at recruitment and training activities for new employees at White Rock Truss & Components. VJIP represents state-funded initiatives committed to enhancing employment opportunities in Virginia.
