Dye Home Improvement is a family-owned business that has been operating in White County for over 100 years. The company’s legacy began with the Dye brothers, was carried on by G. Russell Dye, and continues under the leadership of his grandson, Art Dragoo. Art has carried forward the family’s vision with dedication, integrity, and a deep love for this community.

“I was somewhat familiar with R.P. Lumber before talks of an acquisition began,” said Dragoo, “but once we started conversations with their leadership team, we quickly understood their vision—not only to expand their footprint, but also to preserve jobs and continue serving customers in a fair and honest manner. They showed genuine concern for our customers, employees, and vendor partners, which made this decision an easy one for me and my family.”

Jason Plummer, president of R.P. Lumber, expressed admiration for Dragoo and his team. “Within 10 minutes of meeting Art and walking into the first store, I knew our teams and business models would be great fits. Art is an honest and decent man, so the process was straightforward, collaborative, and will be a true win-win for all parties. We saw not only a chance to grow our business, but also to serve two vibrant communities with the same care and attention they have experienced from Dye Home Improvement for generations,” said Plummer.

Just 15 minutes apart from each other and less than an hour away from existing R.P. Lumber locations, these stores both expand R.P. Lumber’s ability to serve current customers and allow the company to reach new ones. Each location features a showroom offering hardware, tools, paint, and displays, as well as fully operational yards offering a wide assortment of lumber, roofing products, drywall, and other building materials.

“This transaction worked because everyone shared the same goal: to invest in the future of White County,” added Plummer. “We are grateful for Art, his family, and the team members and loyal customers of Dye Home Improvement. We are humbled to carry on the legacy of a great family business, excited to welcome new team members to the R.P. Lumber family and committed to delivering our Best Service to the people of White County.”

“Generations of my family have worked in this business, and some of our wonderful employees have worked here for several decades,” said Dragoo. “This was an extremely important decision for me and my family, and so my advisors and I took our time to evaluate our options for what is best for our family, our employees, and the communities we have proudly served for many years. This weighed on me, and I wanted to make sure we made the right decision. Not only am I confident we have, I look forward to seeing R.P. Lumber carry the torch forward at these locations. I stand by ready to help, and I am excited for the future.”
