SBCA Announces New Executive Director

Experienced Association Executive Brings More Than 30 Years of Leadership Experience to SBCA

BILLINGS, MT – September 10, 2026 – The Structural Building Components Association (SBCA) is pleased to announce Steve Skodak, CAE, CFRE, as its new Executive Director, effective September 8, 2026.

Skodak brings more than 30 years of experience leading trade associations, foundations, and nonprofit organizations. Most recently, he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Building Performance Association and Building Performance Foundation, national organizations serving more than 26,000 professionals in the home performance and energy efficiency industry.

Throughout his career, Skodak has worked closely with boards, members, volunteers, and staff to strengthen organizations, expand education and professional development, develop workforce initiatives, create new sources of revenue, and identify opportunities to help members and businesses succeed. His experience also includes national conferences, industry standards and accreditation, government partnerships, advocacy, technology modernization, and organizational growth.

“Steve brings a depth of association leadership experience and, just as importantly, a genuine interest in the people and businesses that make an industry successful,” says Larry Dix II, SBCA President. “His experience with member-driven organizations and his commitment to listening, building relationships, and understanding what members need from their association really stood out. SBCA has tremendous momentum, and we are excited to have Steve join us as we continue building on that foundation and advancing the structural building components industry.”

For Skodak, joining SBCA also provides an opportunity to reconnect with industries and trades that were part of his upbringing. He grew up in Central Michigan, where General Motors, family farms, and the skilled trades played a major role in the community. His father retired from GM as a pipefitter, and his mother’s family operated a dairy farm. Through strong trades programs in his schools, Skodak gained hands-on experience in welding, woodworking, electrical work, small engine repair, automotive, and building trades.

“I have always had a real appreciation for people who know how to make, build, and fix things, so I am excited to get to know the people behind this industry,” says Skodak. “I am looking forward to spending time with our members, volunteer leadership, and staff, hearing about the opportunities and challenges they are facing, and understanding where SBCA can be most helpful. Most of all, I am excited to work together to build on the great work already happening at SBCA and support the continued success of our members and the industry.”

Prior to leading the Building Performance Association, Skodak served as executive director of the Painting Contractors Association and PCA Education Foundation, the Optimist International Foundation, and the Mid-America Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America. He began his career in YMCA leadership before spending eight years developing and implementing technology solutions for membership organizations.

Skodak earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications and Marketing from Missouri State University and holds Certified Association Executive (CAE) and Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credentials. He has served as president of the St. Louis Society of Association Executives and the St. Louis Planned Giving Council and serves as a neutral arbitrator for FINRA.

Outside of work, Skodak enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, as well as golfing, kayaking, hiking, camping, and getting together with family and friends. A longtime aviation enthusiast, he also maintains an appreciation for just about anything with wings and a propeller.

Skodak succeeds the interim leadership team of Molly Butz and Greg Greenlee, P.E., who have served as Interim Co-Executive Directors since January 2026, providing continuity for SBCA’s members, staff, programs, and strategic initiatives throughout the executive search.

Skodak’s appointment marks the next step for SBCA as the association builds on its continued growth and momentum. Working alongside the Board of Directors, staff, volunteer leaders, and members, he will help guide SBCA’s ongoing efforts to serve its members, strengthen the industry, and pursue new opportunities that support the future of structural building components.
