Structural Building Components Association (SBCA) is looking for a Director of Business Development to focus on building and maintaining relationships as well as lead the organization’s sales programs and efforts. The Director of Business Development will develop strategic business objectives for all areas of SBCA’s operations including SBCA Magazine, Building Component Manufacturers Conference (BCMC), National Framers Council, SBCA Membership Efforts, SBCA Publications and Services, SBCA Chapters, Regional Events, and more. The Director of Business Development will take the lead in identifying potential members and converting them to SBCA members across all membership types and classes. This position will assist in the management and development of marketing programs and materials such as advertising, event support, and online promotions. 

To be successful as the Director of Business Development, the candidate should have or be able to develop a deep knowledge of the component and broader construction industries and understanding of SBCA’s broader departmental functions and offerings to stakeholders, including members, non-members, suppliers, and users of structural building components.

SBCA is an international trade association representing manufacturers of structural building components whose membership includes truss plate suppliers, equipment manufacturers and resellers, software companies, lumber suppliers, builders, and professional individuals in the fields of engineering, marketing, and management.

Director of Business Development Responsibilities: 

  • Develop key relationships with clients, stakeholders, members, and non-members. 
  • Promote SBCA’s existing products and brands and introduce new products to the market. 
  • Maintain a pipeline full of sales. 
  • Maintain existing relationships with associate members.
  • Develop short-term and long-term sales goals. 
  • Implement new sales plans and aid in the creation of advertising. 
  • Responsible for publications sales via online and offline methods. 
  • Ownership of conference exhibit, sponsorship, and attendee sales and support. 
  • Solicit and secure sponsorships for association events and general purposes. 
  • Develop new relationships with potential members
  • Responsible for all media advertising sales and client management tasks. 
  • Dialogue with supplier marketing/advertising contacts regarding sales related topics. 
  • Attract and obtain new members in all association membership classes. 
  • Attend conferences and trade shows. 
  • Help develop digital and traditional marketing campaigns across multiple platforms. 
  • Use research to develop, implement, and measure sales strategies. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Director of Business Development Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, or relevant work experience preferred. 
  • Previous experience in sales and marketing and/or experience in component industry. 
  • Great communication and presentation skills. 
  • Expert level interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to accurately forecast sales. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office. 
  • Proficiency in Social Media and various electronic communications platforms. 
  • Ability to think creatively and take initiative. 

Salary and Benefits 

Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications, with beginning wage expected to be in the range of $85,000- $95,000.  Excellent benefits package includes paid time off, paid holidays, family/individual health insurance coverage with a percentage employer-paid, generous employer-paid retirement savings program, life insurance, professional development opportunities and more.   

Work from Home 

This is a Work-from-Home (WFH) position and not centric to a specific geographic location. Successful candidate will be located within the United States and have high-quality, functional, high speed internet access.  Proximity to an airport with multiple daily flights is a plus.  Computer and accessories will be provided by SBCA while the candidate is expected to have a desk or workspace capable of creating a successful work environment. Travel to SBCA meetings, conferences, staff meetings, and additional SBCA related purposes may be required. 

Physical Requirements 

  •  Withstand prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
  • Ability to type at a fast pace for long periods. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. 
  • Ability to travel with a commercial airline.
