The Engineering and Technology (E&T) Committee has been actively reviewing, updating, and adding to SBCA’s library of technical documents. So far this year, the committee has posted 15 new documents to SBCA’s Knowledge Center. This includes both updated versions of older documents and new technical documents. While the scope of the updated documents is generally the same as the previous version, the content has been revised to reflect the current code requirements and latest industry recommendations. New technical documents have been added to address new and relevant topics for our industry. Additionally, the format of the documents has been changed to align with the new BCSI-2025 guide.
The new technical documents are organized into different categories. These will be used to identify them for cataloging purposes and to organize them in the new SBCA Knowledge Center. Document nomenclature uses the format of document type acronym followed by a two-digit year number, and then document number for that year. For example, the second Code Summary Report developed in 2025 will be CRS2502.
- Code Summary Reports (CSR####) – Summarizes relevant provisions in the codes and reference standards to explain a topic (Ex. Snow load requirements in ASCE 7-22).
- Technical Notes (TN####) – Explains technical topics (Ex. Effects of corrosion on metal plates).
- Test Summary Reports (TSR####) – Summary of test results (Ex. Fire test data).
- Design Guidance (DG####) – Summary of design information for a specific topic (Ex. Deflection limits for floor trusses).
- Construction Guidance (CG####) – Provides prescriptive design information and installation details (Ex. Deck ledger connection details).
- White Paper (WP####) – Summarizes SBCA’s interpretation and position of an industry related topic (Ex. Quality systems).
In addition to the different technical documents, there will be a place to house the following types of technical documents in the new SBCA Knowledge Center that do not use the same naming convention.
- Technical Articles – Pieces written for publication in SBCA Industry News, NFC Framing News, SBCA Magazine, or Framing Today Magazine which may be a summary or a Code Summary Report, Technical Note, etc.
- Presentations – PDF Copies of SBCA presentations.
Below is a list of the updated and new documents that have been added to the Knowledge Center. For updated documents, the old version document number is shown italicized in parenthesis. New documents are shown bold.

Existing documents that have not yet been updated are also available in the Knowledge Center and are labeled “Legacy” documents. Legacy documents will be removed when a new updated version of the document is available.
To ensure the documents in the Knowledge Center are current and relevant, each new document will include a sunset date. Documents that are currently being developed will be assigned a sunset date of December 31, 2027, to coincide with the building code development cycle.
In the following weeks, look for articles that take a more in-depth look at some of the new technical documents now available.
