This year’s LMC Annual Meeting was held March 5-7, 2024 in Houston, Texas, and provided an opportunity for LMC members to come together for educational sessions, a former astronaut keynote speaker, a show floor full of exhibitors, networking opportunities, and entertainment.

SBCA’s very own Managing Director, Molly Butz, attended the LMC Annual and had the opportunity to moderate a panel session with three of SBCA’s component manufacturer (CM) members on Lumberyard and Component Manufacturing Best Practices. Dave Tocci with Lehigh Structural Components, LLC, Issam Fakoury with Apex Structural Innovation, LLC, and Brian Kerkhoff with KA Components provided excellent insights into the wholesale (two-step) component sales process. All three CMs sell only through lumberyards; they shared everything from the value proposition this method brings to both the lumberyard and the CM to how they handle the challenges they face.

Rachel Hoops, LMC’s Components & B2B Sales Manager and an SBCA Board Member, also joined the panel to help underscore the benefits of working through LMC to develop these relationships. LMC can easily connect CMs with the right lumberyards and provide a plethora of services and oversight to ensure the wholesale process goes smoothly.

NVO Construction’s CEO and SBCA Board Member, Cheryl Lewis, was also in the speaker line-up for the LMC Annual. As part of LMC’s TogetHER initiative, Cheryl presented on her career, the adversity she faced as a woman in traditionally male-dominant industries, and the strategies she deployed to excel in her role as CEO at her component manufacturing plant in Reno, Nevada.

“It was an informative day full of sessions and making connections, and I look forward to future events,” says Molly Butz, SBCA Managing Director. “SBCA is committed to fostering the relationship with LMC and all of our industry partners and we’re grateful for the ongoing opportunity to educate the market on the value and benefits of structural building components”.

With more than 150 people in attendance, the audience was engaged in the conversation and posed many questions throughout the presentations. The advantages of structural building components were clearly communicated and the potential that wholesale component sales can bring to the market were undeniable.
