Taking a Stand on Safety
How the NFC Brings Safety to Life During OSHA's National Safety Stand-Down
Every year, thousands of construction companies across the country pause work for an important reason: to talk about safety. Through OSHA's National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction, employers take time to engage workers in meaningful conversations about fall hazards, proper equipment, safe work practices, and every employee's responsibility to look out for one another. The initiative has become one of the construction industry's most recognized annual safety campaigns, reinforcing the message that every fall is preventable, and every worker deserves to return home safely at the end of the day.
For the National Framers Council (NFC), participation in the Stand-Down has evolved into much more than a single week on the calendar. It has become an opportunity to strengthen safety culture, encourage team engagement, and celebrate the framing industry's commitment to protecting its workforce throughout the year.
Each year, the NFC encourages member companies to participate in OSHA's National Safety Stand- Down by conducting a series of FrameSAFE Fall Protection Toolbox Talks throughout the week. Topics include project risk assessment, ladders, guardrails, scaffolding, and personal fall arrest systems (PFAS), all critical elements of reducing one of construction's leading causes of serious injury and death. Participating companies complete and sign off on each toolbox talk while encouraging open discussion between managers and crews about the real-world hazards they encounter every day.

"The NFC continues to participate in OSHA's National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction week in both a fun and educational way.”
Annual Photo Contest
The NFC adds an additional dimension to the program with its annual Safety Stand-Down Photo Contest. Rather than simply checking a box to indicate participation, framing crews are invited to document their Stand- Down activities by submitting photos that showcase safety training in action. Entries are judged not only on creativity, but also on their demonstration of safe work practices. The contest transforms an important educational exercise into an opportunity for companies to celebrate their employees, showcase their commitment to safety, and inspire others throughout the framing industry.
Chris Breedlove of Ace Carpentry believes the contest has become an effective way to keep safety conversations fresh while encouraging participation across the industry. "The NFC continues to participate in OSHA's National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction week in both a fun and educational way. It is a perfect opportunity to keep safety at the forefront of conversation. We are fortunate to have a wonderful group of sponsors supporting the cause by offering a generous prize package to the photo contest winner!"

Encouraging Active Engagement
That combination of education and friendly competition helps reinforce an important truth: safety programs are most effective when employees are actively engaged. A toolbox talk becomes far more meaningful when crews participate, ask questions, share experiences, and take pride in demonstrating safe work practices.
The annual contest also highlights another defining characteristic of the framing industry: its willingness to learn from one another. Photos submitted from jobsites across the country showcase different approaches to conducting training, using fall protection equipment, organizing crews, and creating positive safety cultures. In many cases, these images become valuable examples that encourage other companies to elevate their own safety efforts.
The importance of the Stand- Down is underscored by OSHA's continued focus on fall prevention. Falls from elevation remain the leading cause of death in the construction industry, accounting for hundreds of fatalities each year. OSHA's National Safety Stand-Down exists to encourage employers to pause normal operations long enough to have meaningful discussions about identifying hazards before work begins, using appropriate fall protection systems, and empowering employees to speak up whenever they identify unsafe conditions.
Those principles align closely with the mission of the NFC and its FrameSAFE initiative. Through educational resources, toolbox talks, videos, safety publications, and best practices developed specifically for framing contractors, the NFC continues to promote practical solutions that help companies build stronger safety cultures throughout the year, not just during Stand- Down week.
For Kenny Shifflett of Ace Carpentry, the continued growth of the initiative reflects the organization's long-standing commitment to protecting workers. He says, "As past president and one of the original members to help get the NFC started, it is great to see how this association has grown. With safety being at the forefront of the NFC, to the active participation of companies in the NFC Stand-Down event, it is truly remarkable. Making sure every worker goes home in the same condition as they arrived is a profound achievement. We as company owners and managers have an obligation to do our best to achieve this goal."
Kenny's comments capture the responsibility shared by every construction leader. Safety is not simply a regulatory requirement or a company policy—it‘s a commitment to employees and their families. Every toolbox talk, equipment inspection, coaching moment, and conversation about fall protection contributes to that commitment.
Congratulations to Jogo Corporation
The annual Photo Contest reinforces this philosophy by celebrating companies that make safety visible. The winning images often capture more than workers gathered around a toolbox talk—they reflect teamwork, leadership, professionalism, and a shared commitment to looking after one another. They remind the industry that safety is not achieved through rules alone—it is built through daily habits, engaged employees, and leaders who consistently prioritize doing the job the right way.
Congratulations to Jogo Corporation, the winner of the 2026 National Framers Council Safety Stand-Down Photo Contest. Its winning submission exemplifies the spirit of the Stand-Down by demonstrating a strong commitment to employee engagement, fall prevention, and building a positive safety culture on the jobsite. By taking the time to invest in meaningful safety conversations and sharing those efforts with the industry, Jogo Corporation sets an outstanding example for framing companies across the country.
The National Framers Council also extends its appreciation to every company that participated in this year's Stand-Down and submitted photos. Each entry represented an investment in protecting workers and strengthening the culture of safety throughout the framing industry. Whether conducting toolbox talks, inspecting fall protection equipment, or simply taking time to reinforce safe work practices, every participating company helped advance the shared goal of ensuring that every framer returns home safely each day.
As each year's National Safety Stand-Down concludes, the conversations sparked during the week continue long afterward. The toolbox talks remain as valuable training resources, the photos continue inspiring other companies, and the lessons learned become part of each organization's safety culture.

For the National Framers Council, that is the true measure of success. The goal is not simply to participate in one week of safety awareness, but to help build an industry in which safe work practices become second nature and every framer walks through their front door healthy at the end of the work day.
NFC extends a special thanks to the Safety Stand-Down Photo Contest sponsors and prize contributors: Shelter Systems Limited, Shelter Products, Contract Lumber, Simpson Strong-Tie, TrussWorks, and QuickTie.
