Editor's Message: Built to Evolve

SBCA Magazine,

Built to Evolve

The Work, the People, the Progress

TRANSITIONS ARE A NATURAL part of any organization that is focused on staying relevant and responsive to its members. At SBCA, that means making thoughtful adjustments that strengthen how we serve the industry and our members, while building on the work that’s already in place.

This issue marks one of those moments for SBCA Magazine. After years of leadership as Managing Editor, Christine is transitioning out of that role as she takes on new responsibilities as Director of Marketing & Communications. During her term guiding the publication, the focus has been clear: create a magazine that reflects the real world experiences and needs of our members and delivers insight that is practical, timely, and useful.

As those responsibilities shift, Sean Shields is stepping into the role of Managing Editor in addition to his work as Director of Strategic Partnerships. Sean brings both familiarity and continued momentum to the position. Many readers will recognize his previous tenure as Managing Editor, during which he helped shape the magazine’s voice and direction for several years. Combined with his ongoing engagement with members and industry partners, that experience positions him to lead the magazine with a strong understanding of the issues, ideas, and conversations that matter most right now.

This transition is less about change in direction and more about continuity and collaboration.

Christine will remain actively involved in the magazine as part of her broader communications role, supporting its development and direction, and contributing to how SBCA shares information across the industry. At the same time, Sean will lead the editorial direction and day-to-day development of the publication, building on its foundation while continuing to evolve its content.

As always, we strive to ensure SBCA Magazine continues to serve as a relevant, reliable resource for the structural building components industry.

At its best, this publication does more than report on what’s happening – it captures the ideas being tested, the challenges being worked through, and the progress being made across the industry every day. It is shaped by the work that takes place in component plants, on jobsites, and in conversations between members. It is informed by the perspectives of those doing the work, and it exists to support it in return.

We’ll keep evolving how we tell those stories, with a focus on sharing the insights and perspectives that matter most to our members. As always, that effort depends on the voices within this community; the experiences you are having, the lessons you are learning, and the ideas you are exploring all play a role in shaping this magazine. If you have something to share, we’d love to hear from you.

We look forward to continuing that work together.

Director of Marketing & Communications
