Editor's Message: A Space to Connect and Stay Informed
You’re in the Right Place to Learn and Grow
It has already been over a year since I took on the role of Managing Editor for SBCA Magazine and Framing Today. In that time, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of what matters most to our readers. Our audience is eager for knowledge, up-to-date insights, and opportunities to connect with their peers and the broader industry. Our publications, along with our diverse media channels, events, and networking opportunities, serve as essential resources for staying informed about the latest developments within the association, the structural building components industry, and the construction sector at large.
In this issue, we continue to provide impactful updates, starting with SBCA’s exciting revision of its flagship guide, BCSI (Building Component Safety Information). The new edition, BCSI-2025, introduces an easy-to-follow chapter format, updated best practices for bracing, and clear illustrations. SBCA’s Technical Director, Greg Greenlee, P.E., offers a comprehensive overview of changes in this revised edition, highlighting what you can expect as you explore the new guide. For more details, check out page 16 and visit www.sbcacomponents.com/BCSI.
As many of us know, finding skilled and talented individuals for our workforce has become increasingly challenging. It’s crucial to know how to recruit the right people and build a strong team. That’s one of the many reasons SBCA is so valuable—our community is filled with industry professionals who face these challenges daily and are eager to share their experiences and insights. In this issue, Shelter System’s Design Team Lead, Tony Acampa, returns to share his expertise on attracting design talent, both from within the company and beyond. He also emphasizes the importance of company culture and training in the hiring process.
The conversation around structural building components gained even more traction earlier this year at NAHB’s International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas. SBCA had a strong presence at the event, helping to position components as a key solution in the construction industry. Sean Shields, SBCA’s Director of Marketing, shares insights from the event, highlighting the growing demand for components, offsite solutions, and systemized products like trusses and wall panels.
Another exciting initiative I want to highlight is SBCA’s Innovation Grant, which is back for its third year and opened for applications on April 1st. In this issue, we’ll showcase the meaningful impact this grant has had on past recipients, helping to drive innovation within the industry, and spotlight individuals and organizations that are making a difference.
SBCA has a wide range of important projects in the works, but there are just too many to list here or cover in these publications. Please be sure to check out our website, www.sbcacomponents.com, for what we’re up to and how to get involved. From quality management programs and updated education and training opportunities, to various events like OQMs, BCMC, and Chapter events, to technical works and safety best practices, resources, and tools, SBCA is here to help move the industry forward and continue to provide a variety of mediums for its members, subscribers, and the overall industry
to stay informed.
As you flip through the pages of this issue, we hope you enjoy the content and find valuable takeaways. As always, I encourage you to reach out to me with feedback, stories, or ideas, or to get involved – It is always exciting to hear from you! I can be reached at cwagner@sbcacomponents.com or 224-236-3724. Thank you and enjoy the May/June 2025 issue of SBCA Magazine!
