What’s next?
In preparation, your next step is to submit official meeting requests with each of the lawmakers you wish to visit. This will take about 15 minutes to complete! Typically, this includes your two Senators and the Representative for the Congressional District in which your facility is located. To submit these requests, please follow the following simple steps:
- Look up your lawmakers’ websites; you can do this by using the following links.
- U.S. Senators: https://www.senate.gov/states/statesmap.htm
- Click on your state, and then click on the name of your Senator, this will take you to their official website.
- U.S. Representatives: https://www.house.gov/representatives
- In the top right corner is a field to input your zip code, this will identify your legislator. Click on their name, this will take you to their official website.
- U.S. Senators: https://www.senate.gov/states/statesmap.htm
- Navigate to the meeting request form on each lawmaker’s website.
- Be sure to fill out the form specific to meeting requests, this will typically be found under the “Contact” menu item.
- If given the option, ensure you choose “D.C.” as the location of the meeting request.
- Fill out the meeting request form.
- Fill out all fields with your preferred contact information.
- The preferred date of the meeting is Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
- If multiple people from your company are attending, try to consolidate your request into one form and put the names of everyone attending.
- If there is a topics menu or field, it is recommended you use the following list in this order: housing, manufacturing, construction, immigration, trade.
- If there is a field to input text on what you would like to meet about, it is recommended to copy or borrow from the following text:
- Our company manufactures the wood structural framing products used to build most homes and apartments in the U.S. today. We provide mainstream solutions that can help make housing more efficient and affordable and I/we would like to share both our ideas on how to help more builders and developers lower their construction costs, as well as identify current headwinds that are threatening to drive the cost of residential construction even higher.
Once you submit your form, please notify Christine Wagner (cwagner@sbcacomponents.com) and forward any correspondence between you and the lawmaker’s office going forward. This will help SBCA pull together your agenda and prepare the appropriate materials for you to take to your meetings.
