The proper and safe installation of trusses and wall panels is of paramount importance. Accordingly, SBCA is committed to developing and providing guidance to further this objective.
SBCA has created a variety of Jobsite Packages that can be shipped to the project site along with the trusses and wall panels. There are four different Jobsite Packages available. These include the typical Jobsite Package, Floor Truss Jobsite Package, Long Span Truss Jobsite Package, and the Wall Panel Jobsite Package. Each of these packages includes a collection of different documents selected to address the unique bracing, restraint, and safety considerations for that particular application. These documents include different B-Series Summary Sheets which summarize the contents of the Building Component Safety Information (BCSI) Guide, SBCA Research Reports (SRRs), and other important information sheets. Below is a summary of the contents for each jobsite package.

In addition to the B-Series Summary Sheets and SRRs, each Jobsite Package includes a cover sheet and the Component Warning Notice sheet.
In 2024, SBCA introduced the Component Warning Notice (CWN) initiative as part of its commitment to jobsite safety. This initiative is designed to raise awareness about the risks associated with installing trusses and components. At its core, CWN serves as a clear and consistent warning system, ensuring that everyone handling structural building components understands the potential hazards.
The Component Warning Notice is made up of three parts: the Component Warning Notice Tag, the Component Warning Notice Sheet, and the Component Warning Notice Website.
- The Component Warning Notice Tag is intended to be attached to every truss and component sent to a jobsite. It highlights potential dangers associated with components and also features a QR code linking to the Component Warning Notice Website.
- The Component Warning Notice Sheet is included in SBCA’s Jobsite Packages. This sheet reinforces the safety messages from the tag and provides detailed guidelines for handling and installing components safely. Like the tag, it also includes a QR code linking to more resources.
- The Component Warning Notice Website, www.componentwarningnotice.com. This site serves as a central hub for all CWN-related information. Framers, installers, and other jobsite personnel can find comprehensive safety guidelines and links to important industry resources.
Each of these plays an important role in making safety information easily accessible and together creates a triangulation effect for maximum awareness of the hazards of components for the installer.
Structural components (such as trusses and wall panels) can pose hazards to installers, other construction personnel, and bystanders. If not properly handled, installed and braced, components can fall from heights and injure nearby persons. Installers can also fall when installing and working from components, particularly when they are not utilizing fall protection measures. The hazards of falling from components or falling components can involve serious injury or death.
Component manufacturers include the CWN as an additional tool to help provide installers information about the safety risks associated with the handling and installation of trusses and components. The CWN was developed to alert and warn contractors, framers, and installers about these risks. SBCA recommends providing complete Jobsite Packages, including the Component Warning Sheets, combined with CWN tags with EVERY job as a best practice to ensure that comprehensive information is provided and available.
