The 2025 SBCA Innovation Grant has five recipients, and SBCA is excited to spotlight each one leading up to the BCMC show in Omaha. There, attendees and exhibitors will have the chance to see these innovations showcased on the show floor.

This week’s Innovation Grant Recipient Spotlight features Dusty Robotics.

Dusty Robotics’ FieldPrinter 2 is a solution to ensure design integrity in the field through automated layout and a streamlined BIM-to-field process. Dusty delivers a combination of hardware, software, and services that fit seamlessly into existing construction work processes by printing digital models directly on the jobsite floor with 1/16" accuracy.

Founded in 2018 with Co-Founder and CEO Tessa Lau, Dusty Robotics got its start working with framing and drywall contractors, which remains a key focus and customers. Framers were Dusty’s earliest believers. They understood immediately why precise and fast layout matters because they're the ones who have to make everything else fit perfectly.

"You're using one robot to print and it's using all of the coordinated files from all the trades together," says Tessa Lau, CEO and Co-Founder of Dusty Robotics. "Exactly what comes out of that coordination process is what everyone knows."

By linking coordinated drawings directly to markings on the slab/floor, the onsite robot creates a clear foundation for framing and multi-trade layout, delivering the precision and speed that keep projects moving smoothly.

“Being selected as an SBCA Innovation Grant Recipient feels like coming full circle for us,” continues Tessa. “This SBCA recognition validates what framers have been telling us from day one: that when layout is wrong, everything downstream suffers. The system supports multi-trade layout and is especially well-suited for projects that involve offsite construction or prefabricated walls, where accurate placement is especially critical.”

Dusty Robotics' FieldPrinter 2 will be featured along with the other 2025 Grant Recipients on the BCMC show floor on Innovation Alley. Dusty Robotics will be located at Booth 1011. After visiting the 2025 SBCA Innovation Grant Recipient booths, attendees can stop by Booth 1012 to cast a vote for the 2025 People’s Choice Innovator, which will be announced during the Industry Celebration on Thursday, October 2.

"SBCA represents the heart of the structural building components industry—the manufacturers and contractors who are driving innovation in construction,” concludes Tessa. “Exhibiting our innovation at BCMC & Framer Summit provides us with the perfect platform to demonstrate how robotic layout technology can specifically benefit the framing and component manufacturing community. It's an opportunity to show how our 'file-to-field communication system' can help SBCA members achieve the precision and speed their projects demand."
