Official Press Release

BILLINGS, MT – September 8, 2025 – The Structural Building Components Association (SBCA) is excited to be co-sponsoring and exhibiting on the National Mall for HUD’s 2025 Innovative Housing Showcase. Back this year with the “Big Green House”, SBCA in collaboration with the National Framers Council (NFC), and SBCA member company, 84 Lumber, framed and dried in a 3,000-square-foot, two-story duplex (1,500 square feet per unit). This structure offers event attendees a firsthand look at how offsite manufactured structural components, such as roof trusses, floor trusses, and wall panels, dramatically improve the framing process. Building with components as a system, where roof trusses, floor trusses, and wall panels are used, provides measurable advantages in time savings, labor efficiency, and material use.

The event commenced over the weekend, Saturday, September 6th, and continues to 4pm Eastern Time on Wednesday, September 10th. From Members of Congress and government agency leadership to home builders and architects to the general public and more, the Showcase draws people of all knowledge levels, background, and locations to learn more about the solutions available to housing challenges this country faces.

“It is incredibly important to be part of events like this,” says Jess Lohse, SBCA Executive Director. “Bringing together those who can progress housing in this country and featuring the different methodologies and technologies that can do that is the best way to bring attention to solutions that already exist, such as building with trusses and wall panels. Housing challenges in the United States are growing, and components, with their existing scalability and efficiency, are part of the solution to availability, affordability, and accessibility.”

Component manufacturers span across the United States with over 1,300 locations. By constructing the house in under 12 hours on the National Mall, SBCA demonstrates that whether for a single-family home or a large multi-family project, componentized framing is the best way to frame.

“With this nation in the midst of a housing crisis, providing scalable and available solutions is key. Building with components is an adaptable process for builders,” continues Jess. “Because they can be scaled to any project size and easily adapted to different designs, components represent a proven way to deliver more housing. They’re not just a construction efficiency, they’re a real, ready-to-go solution for expanding housing availability nationwide.”
