Specialty building materials distributor US LBM completed its previously announced acquisition of American Construction Source (ACS) from Angeles Equity Partners and Clearlake Capital Group. The deal adds more than 70 locations in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, Washington, and Wisconsin to US LBM’s footprint.

“We are excited to welcome our new teams in the midwest and west to US LBM, and the combination of their expertise and excellent customer relationships with the tools, resources, and reach of our national network creates unlimited opportunities for our customers, associates, suppliers, and communities,” US LBM president and CEO L.T. Gibson said in a prepared statement. “US LBM’s overall strategy remains growing in our existing markets and partnering through acquisitions with the best companies in new markets.”

ACS is a LBM distribution platform serving custom home builders, repair and remodel contractors, and DIYers. ACS was formed by Angeles and Clearlake in 2018 after the purchase of Meek’s Lumber and quickly expanded with the acquisitions of Edwards Building Center, Breceknridge Building Center, and Arrow Building Center in late 2018. The distributor acquired Freeborn Lumber Company in June 2019, Contractor’s Truss Systems in September 2019, Homewood Holdings in February of 2020, and Weaver Lumber in July 2020.

“This transaction represents the culmination of our LBM investment thesis, and we enjoyed working alongside Jim Drexinger and his leadership team for the second time in this sector,” Timothy Meyer and Jordan Katz, co-founders and managing partners of Angeles Equity Partners, said.

Buffalo Grove, Ill.-based USL LBM has completed more than 65 acquisitions since it was founded in 2009. The ACS deal is US LBM’s fourth acquisition in the month of July. The specialty distributor also acquired Brand Vaughan Lumber Company in the Atlanta metro, Home Center Supply in the Phoenix metro, and J.P. Hart Lumber and Components, which serves customers in Austin, Houston, Dallas-Ft. Worth, and San Antonio.

The specialty distributor has been busy expanding over the past calendar year and added six locations through its acquisition of Zeeland Lumber in November 2020, 10 locations with its acquisitions of Ridgefield Supply Company, Tri-County Building Supplies, and Jennings Builders Supply & Hardware in December 2020, five locations with its purchase of Gilcrest/Jewett in January 2021, and 40 locations with its acquisition of Higginbotham Brothers.

US LBM has also opened greenfield locations in New Castle, Del., Paterson, N.J., and Yeadon, Pa., since November 2020.

US LBM offers a portfolio of specialty products, including windows, doors, millwork, wallboard, roofing, siding, engineered components, and cabinetry.
