A CM’s Influence on Local Education: Developing Relationships with Trade Programs
Tuesday, May 5 2020 1:00pm (America/Chicago)
As component manufacturers struggle to find and recruit new employees, one CM is developing close relationships with local schools, their faculty members, and area business leaders to help grow local trades education, and highlighting careers available in the component manufacturing industry. Hear from Shawnee Gunnett, a structural estimator with Big C Lumber in Dowagiac, Michigan, as she discusses her involvement with local trade advisory boards, and how she approaches her local schools to foster mutually beneficial relationships.
Shawnee Gunnett has studied construction since her freshman year in high school and “fell in love” with the component manufacturing industry during an internship with Big C during her first year of college. Always up for a challenge, Shawnee currently serves on advisory boards at three schools in her local area as she advocates for greater awareness of the component manufacturing industry with students in construction trades program. Shawnee was a recipient of the 2019 SBCA Emerging Leaders Scholarship and is now a member of the Emerging Leaders Committee.
