Scott Ward

Scott Ward is a Chapter Representative of the SBCA Board of Directors; he has been involved in the association for over 20 years, having attended his first BCMC in 1998 with his father. Soon after, Scott was asked to join the Mid-South Component Chapter, and at the 2005 BCMC was asked to serve on the Board as the Mid-South Chapter representative. In addition to his role on the Board, Scott serves on SBCA’s QC Committee as its chair, the BCMC Committee, and the Past Presidents Council. Scott also served as SBCA President in 2013 and 2014 and held a seat on the SBCA Executive Committee for about 12 years.

Having amazing opportunities to network, grow, and learn from peers through SBCA has been a major highlight and benefit for Scott throughout his involvement in the association. His favorite part of the industry is watching something go from an idea drawn on a piece of paper to a very complex work of art that creates a structural masterpiece in the field. As a leader and member of SBCA, Scott’s goal continues to be to focus on the growth and progress of SBCA’s quality control programs and for them to become industry staples. With Scott’s involvement, passion, and commitment to SBCA and the overall industry, Scott has been honored with the SBCA Industry Leadership Award in 2014 and was inducted into the SBCA Hall of Fame in 2016.

Growing up in the family business, Scott got into the industry as a young man working with his father. Scott has now been with the company for 30 years and throughout that time has held many roles at their family truss plant, Southern Components, Inc., including his father’s assistant for about seven years before taking over the business in 2015. Scott is the Owner of Southern Components, Inc., which is now in its third generation with two of Scott’s sons, Seth and Caleb, working in the business. As the owner, Scott is responsible for monitoring financials, maintaining strong relationships with vendors, and being there to help anyone who needs it. “It is my turn to give back to my work family from the knowledge that I was blessed to have gained from my father, my industry friends, and SBCA,” says Scott. “I consider myself very blessed to be surrounded by so many brilliant people every day. It makes my role fun and exciting.”

In addition to his participation within SBCA and his own company, Scott is very active in his community: he sits on the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee and Finance Committee, the Executive Committee of the Manufacturers Managers Council of Northwest Louisiana, the Board of Directors of the Military Affairs Council, the Board of Directors of United Way of Northwest Louisiana, is a member of the committee of 100 Shreveport, and also serves on Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux’s Business Development Team.

Of Scott’s many achievements, his greatest so far has been his marriage to his best friend, Ellie, and having the fortune of raising their five children together. Beyond work and his community involvement, Scott loves to spend time with his family and play golf, as it is something he can do for the rest of his life that he can enjoy with his wife and friends from all over the country.
